The BSH in Public Health combines a broad spectrum of liberal arts, sciences, social sciences and health science to prepare undergraduate students in the field of health education and health promotion. Students gain experience and skills in promoting healthy behaviors and preventing both chronic and infectious diseases and injury, while learning the theories and research methods necessary for the development of this field. Students will complete courses in nutrition, sexuality education, substance abuse and violence prevention, exercise science, fitness and aging. The goal of the Public Health program is to provide students with the education needed for entry-level public health positions and for graduate studies. Of major concern to any society is the health and well-being of its citizens. Although the human lifespan has increased, chronic and degenerative diseases, and continuing and emerging infectious disease and injuries are urgent problems that must be addressed. Enhancement of health at both the individual and public levels is the major focus of this program. At the completion of this degree program, students are eligible to take the national examination for certification in health education (CHES). The Public Health curriculum includes a required Minor in Health Education. Career Planning Engaging in career planning activities is significant to student success.
