The Osprey Map provides a term-by-term sample schedule for each undergraduate academic program at the University of North Florida. It is designed to guide students in the selection of courses each term. The "Mile Marker" courses in the right-hand column are those courses that should be completed before or by the end of that term. Following the sample schedule, and completing the mile marker courses at the appropriate point of your undergraduate career, will facilitate graduation in four years. The term-by-term model assumes full-time enrollment. For students enrolled part-time, the sample schedule and mile markers should be followed based on the number of credits completed. The Osprey Map should be used in consultation with an academic advisor.

The Mathematics major provides students with the background necessary to pursue quantitative careers in mathematics as well as the background to pursue more advanced degrees. Courses are designed to educate in an appealing and thought-provoking manner. Faculty strive to instill students with an appreciation for the power of mathematics and statistics as well as a desire to be lifelong learners. UNF offers customized career centers to deliver targeted programs, events, services and resources. First-Year students should visit the Career Services webpage and Sophomore or higher level students with a declared COAS major should visit the College of Arts and Sciences Career Success Center. Students should refer to their personalized Degree Evaluation provided by an advisor and to other university resources for additional university and college-specific policies. Visit the undergraduate university catalog for more information. Summer terms may be utilized to facilitate graduation in four years. Visit the university catalog for a list of General Education requirements. An Associate in Arts (AA) degree from a Florida public university, state college or community college satisfies UNF general education and Gordon Rule requirements. Math selection for First Time in College (FTIC) students is contingent upon Math Placement exam results, the student’s major and credit received through accelerated mechanisms (Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Dual Enrollment, etc). Students requiring preparation for MAC 2311 Calculus I should take MAC 1147 Precalculus. Students requiring preparation for CHM 2045/2045L General Chemistry I with Lab should take CHM 1025/1025L Introduction to Chemistry with Lab. MAC 1105 College Algebra or MAC equivalent is an enforced prerequisite for CHM 2045/2045L. Students requiring preparation for PHY 2053/2053L Algebra-Based Physics should take PHY 1020 Introduction to Physics. Completion of MHF3202 Foundations of Mathematics is crucial to stay on-track for the Math major. Students earning a grade of B+ or higher in MHF3202 Foundations of Mathematics should consider taking MAS4301 Abstract Algebra I in Term 6. Major Electives: MAD3107 Discrete Mathematics, MAS3203 Number Theory and MTG3212 Modern Geometry review how to create and understand proofs. Students must create and understand proofs to succeed in MAA4211 Advanced Calculus I and MAS4301 Abstract Algebra I. MAA4211 Advanced Calculus I and MAS4301 Abstract Algebra I are the most challenging courses in the Math major and are typically taken in the senior year. Successful completion of MAA4211 Advanced Calculus I is required prior to MAS4932 Capstone Experience in Math. Math majors are required to complete 9 semester hours of Major Electives. See the university catalog, or personalized Degree Evaluation for a list of approved Math Major Electives. Consult an academic advisor or Math Department chairperson regarding approval of additional Math Major Elective options. All BA students in the College of Arts and Sciences are required to complete the foreign language or foreign culture requirement with grades of C or higher. Students opting to complete the 8 semester hours of foreign language must select one sequence of Spanish, French, Chinese, German or American Sign Language. Part 1 of languages are typically offered in the fall and part 2 in the spring. Foreign Culture (FC) Option: students who successfully completed 2 years of foreign language in high school have the option to take foreign culture courses instead of college level foreign language. Foreign cultures contain (FC) in the course title. A complete list of foreign culture courses can be found in the Arts & Sciences Advising Office. A minor is required for this degree. The minor must be selected from the list of approved minors, including those outside the college of the major. See a list of minors in the undergraduate catalog. Math majors selecting a Minor in Statistics must visit the university catalog for variations within this Minor. Minors are generally completed during the last 60 hrs of your program. Your minor may require prerequisites, so choosing a minor early is beneficial. See your academic advisor to declare a minor. Double majors are exempt from a minor. Civic Literacy Requirement: Prior to graduation from a Florida state university, students must demonstrate competency in civic literacy through successful completion of a civic literacy course (AMH 2020 or POS 2041) and by achieving a passing score on an assessment. Consult an academic advisor, the university catalog and visit the Civic Literacy webpage for additional information. A minimum of 120 hours (48 hours at the upper 3000/4000 level) is required for the bachelor's degree. Students may need to complete Free Elective credit at the upper level (3000/4000) to satisfy the minimum 48 semester hours of upper level hours for graduation.
