The Osprey Map provides a term-by-term sample schedule for each undergraduate academic program at the University of North Florida. It is designed to guide students in the selection of courses each term. The "Mile Marker" courses in the right-hand column are those courses that should be completed before or by the end of that term. Following the sample schedule, and completing the mile marker courses at the appropriate point of your undergraduate career, will facilitate graduation in four years. The term-by-term model assumes full-time enrollment. For students enrolled part-time, the sample schedule and mile markers should be followed based on the number of credits completed. The Osprey Map should be used in consultation with an academic advisor.

The Information Science concentration incorporates coursework reflective of current computing practices, whether legacy or state-of-art. This includes course work in applications programming, data and file structures, object-oriented design, system design, database design, systems implementation, systems maintenance, networks, and computer communications. In addition to the major course work, the Information Science concentration requires studies in a Minor area. Depending upon the Minor chosen, graduates are prepared to embark on careers in network applications, software development, systems analysis and design, or other more specialized computer-related careers. Summer terms may be utilized to facilitate graduation in four years.

  • Visit the university catalog for a list of General Education requirements. An Associate in Arts (AA) degree from a Florida public university, state college or community college satisfies UNF general education and Gordon Rule requirements. General Education Math selection for First Time in College (FTIC) students is contingent upon Math Placement exam results, SAT/ACT math scores, the student’s major and/or credit received through accelerated mechanisms (Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Dual Enrollment, etc). Information Science students will satisfy the six semester hour General Education Mathematics with Program Prerequisites.

  • Visit the School of Computing home page and consult an academic advisor in the School of Computing Advising Office for additional information.

  • A Minor is required for this concentration. Minors are described in the UNF catalog under the appropriate college. Courses applied toward the major may not be counted in the minor. Free Electives in Terms 1 - 4 should be utilized for prerequisites to the selected Minor, if needed.

  • Spoken presentations are graduation requirements for the Information Science program. The student's presentation will be evaluated by the faculty member administering the course.

  • School of Computing Satisfactory Progress Policy: A "one repeat" rule is enforced for all prerequisite and core courses in the Computing and Information Sciences major. Students who fail or do not successfully complete a prerequisite or core requirement (grade of D, F, W, WP or WF) in a School of Computing course on the first attempt will be permitted to repeat the course one time. Students unsuccessful in the second attempt of a prerequisite or core requirement will be restricted from future registration in School of Computing courses.

  • The B.S. in Computing and Information Sciences requires 120 total semester hours, including 54 upper-level (3000/4000) hours.
