College: Arts and Sciences
Degree: Bachelor of Science
Major: Psychology
Effective Term: Fall 2013
The Osprey Map provides a term-by-term sample schedule for each undergraduate academic program at the University of North Florida. It is designed to guide students in the selection of courses each term. The "Mile Marker" courses in the right-hand column are those courses that should be completed before or by the end of that term. Following the sample schedule, and completing the mile marker courses at the appropriate point of your undergraduate career, will facilitate graduation in four years. The term-by-term model assumes full-time enrollment. For students enrolled part-time, the sample schedule and mile markers should be followed based on the number of credits completed. The Osprey Map should be used in consultation with an academic advisor.

Psychology may be defined as the scientific study of the behavior of humans and animals. The goal of the Department of Psychology is to help students understand the history, methods, and philosophy of the differing approaches to the study of behavior. The Bachelor of Science degree (BS) is distinguished by its scientific emphasis. Students who complete the BS satisfy the degree requirements by taking courses that advance their study of human and animal behavior. Students will acquire knowledge and skill in research methods used by behavioral scientists. Visit the Psychology Department webpage for additional information. Students should also consult a Psychology Department faculty member for questions related to the major and continuing their education in the field of psychology. Free Electives should be selected within the student's area of interest, in consultation with a psychology department faculty member. Click on the Students tab of the Career Services webpage for major exploration information.

Students should refer to their personalized Degree Evaluation provided by an advisor and to other university resources for additional university and college-specific policies. Visit the undergraduate university catalog for more information.

Summer terms may be utilized to facilitate graduation in four years.

  • Visit the university catalog for a list of General Education requirements. An Associate in Arts (AA) degree from a Florida public university, state college or community college satisfies UNF general education and Gordon Rule requirements. General Education Math selection for First Time in College (FTIC) students is contingent upon Math Placement exam results, SAT/ACT math scores, the student’s major and/or credit received through accelerated mechanisms (Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Dual Enrollment, etc). BS in Psychology students will satisfy 3 semester hours of Introductory Social Science General Education, 3 semester hours of General Education Mathematics and 4 semester hours of Natural Science with Program Prerequisites. When selecting the Philosophy requirement for General Eduction Humanites, students are strongly encouraged to take PHI 2010 Reasoning and Critical Thinking.

  • No more than 3 semester hours in Directed Individual Study, Supervised Research, Honors Research or Practicum may be used as Major Elective hours. Additional hours in these courses may be taken as Free Electives.

  • A minimum of 120 hours (48 hours at the upper 3000/4000 level) is required for the bachelor's degree. Students may need to complete Free Elective credit at the upper level (3000/4000) to satisfy the minimum 48 semester hours of upper level hours for graduation.
